The night felt twice as long as Jaejoong’s eyes never left Yunho’s sleeping form on the bed. Jaejoong knew things would change the moment Yunho woke up from his slumber; their relationship would either turn for the better or most probably the worse.

He saw Yunho stir from under the duvet and he continued to watch as the other’s eyes flutter open, his expression showed that of shock and something almost similar to regret. Jaejoong began to panic when it dawned into him that Yunho was in such a hurry when he stood up and began searching for his clothes…he was leaving Jaejoong.

“Yunho-ah.” Jaejoong called softly, hoping to calm Yunho or at least get a proper answer from him, a proper closure if possible. He walked toward Yunho, now sitting on foot of the bed fixing his shirt, back facing Jaejoong.

“Yunho-ah.” This time Yunho turned towards him, fully clothed and anger evident in his face, Jaejoong wasn’t sure whether the anger was directed at him or at Yunho himself.

“Jaejoong this is a mistake. What we did was a mistake.” Yunho’s voice was low and full of repentance. So this meant he had chosen Seulgi, Jaejoong could tell. This meant he saw Jaejoong as a friend and nothing more. Jaejoong felt his body tremble from realization. If he had thought he had already seen it coming then he was wrong, dead wrong.

“Yunho, listen! Wait-“ Jaejoong launched himself to a retreating Yunho, wrapping his arms around the taller man.

“Yunho wait…it wasn’t a mistake don’t say that.” Yunho stiffened and Jaejoong felt the other grab both his arms, prying them off him. Turning around, Yunho held Jaejoong’s wrists to try and prevent his best friend from changing his mind.

“Jaejoong, I’m not one of them. I’m your best friend. I’m I can’t be one of your one night stands.” Yunho declared with a stern voice, his grip on Jaejoong’s wrists tightening, his eyes burning with anger.

What did he do? What did Jaejoong do to deserve this? He had always tried his hardest to win Yunho’s attention; he had always given his all to please him.

Did Yunho really felt nothing towards him? Or was it his morals that hindered him?

“Yunho it’s not like that, I didn’t-“ Before Jaejoong could finish, Yunho let go of him and grabbed his bag. Without turning back he muttered a quick ‘go home after you get dressed, I’ll pay for the hotel.’

Jaejoong did as he was told, eventually. Holding the yellow baby pajama he bought earlier, Jaejoong called a cab and leaned his head against the glass window, tired and spent. He didn’t know if he’d have the courage to face Seulgi after sleeping with the man she was about to claim as her own in a few months. The faint vibration of the phone jerked Jaejoong awake, he didn’t even realize he had fallen asleep.

“I’m so sorry.”

-Yunho

Without knowing it, Yunho had robbed any hope residing inside Jaejoong.

--

A month had passed and Jaejoong had learned to accept that he wasn’t always going to get whatever he wished for. Somehow he had learned to love what he had. And Yunho, being the secretive man that he was, showed no sign of discomfort around Jaejoong, more like he was busy preparing for his upcoming wedding. Jaejoong didn’t find it in himself to feel shocked that Yunho had changed the schedule of his wedding, making it three months earlier than what had been previously planned.

The wedding was a few months before graduation and deep inside, Jaejoong still found himself envious. One was because he wasn’t graduating, he dropped out of school some years ago and returned a few years late, two, his best friend was going to marry and have a family, while he, being the carefree man that he was, will remain a bachelor and an undergraduate.

Everything went out smoothly for Jaejoong, his sister had given birth to a healthy baby girl and his friendship with Yoochun had escalated into something more precious. He couldn’t see it in a romantic sense though. In his free time he still crashed bars and clubs and still got wasted, but he learned his lesson. Jaejoong hadn’t slept with anyone for the last month.

Despite all the amendments Yunho and Jaejoong had tried, it seemed their friendship was never going to be the same again, Yunho had always avoided the topic of that night they spent together and Jaejoong, being him, decided to leave whatever they had hanging.

It was a Sunday when Yunho called everyone for a meeting, announcing Jaejoong to be his best man and though pretty much awkward, Jaejoong agreed. Somehow the uneasiness lessened between them and Jaejoong was thankful he got his best friend back. Pain was inevitable but life goes on.

Fate, though, didn’t seem like it was on their side. Because a few fays after they’ve almost recovered their friendship, Jaejoong discovered his very alarming situation.

Jaejoong was busy browsing through the magazine he borrowed from Yoochun (he admired Yoochun’s fashion) that day and Yoochun was busy writing a song, Changmin and Junsu were there too but they disappeared from sight the moment Jaejoong mentioned about cheesecakes in his fridge.

“Changmin! Junsu! Leave some for us! And don’t ransack my fridge!” Jaejoong yelled, half amused, half annoyed.

“You have pears too!” Junsu yelled back, probably missing Jaejoong’s first warning.

“Hyung please tell me this mushroom on your fridge’s door is one you actually bought from the supermarket.” the smarter of the two exclaimed, a bit horrified.

Jaejoong laughed, these two dongsaeng of his were very amusing indeed. He was about to stand up and come to rescue them from the evil mushroom growing in his fridge when his surroundings suddenly seemed to spin. He fell back to the couch, he tried to relax his nerves and just as he was about to call for Yoochun, he felt bile rising from his throat. Jaejoong sprinted towards the bathroom, passing both Changmin and Junsu.

“Hyung!” both called out in unison.

Yoochun who heard the commotion came running to the kitchen and saw his two friends running for the bathroom, he followed the two to reveal a pale, almost sickly man holding onto the sides of the porcelain bowl as he retched his lunch into the toilet.

Changmin and Junsu kept rubbing circles on his back to soothe the pain.

After dreadfully throwing up for almost an hour, Jaejoong stood up to gargle. Yoochun continued watching the older with a worried look. Among them all, Yoochun knew more about his soul mate and he knew there was something off.

“I’m okay guys, sorry about that.” Jaejoong’s eyes were red rimmed, probably from the pressure of retching.

Junsu hugged the older man and Changmin followed suit.

“Jaejoong-hyung, take care of yourself, you’re not superman for god’s sake.” Junsu said, voice muffled against Jaejoong’s sweater.

“You’re so stupid hyung, you always forget about yourself.” Changmin who was smarter and snarkier yet equally concerned refused to let go.

“What are you talking about? I’m not sick. Maybe I upset my stomach this morning. Anyway, let me go you’re crushing me.” Jaejoong managed to choke out as the two squeezed him.

After all the commotion, Jaejoong chose to lie on Yoochun’s queen size bed as he asked his soul mate to cook him ramen and kimbap.

“Gosh Jae, you’re acting like a pregnant woman!” Yoochun complained as he placed the tray in front of Jaejoong.

“Na uh, just sick.” Jaejoong smiled at his soul mate who frowned at him in return

“Let’s go to the doctor after you get enough rest okay?” Yoochun gave him a concerned look, and Jaejoong didn’t find it in himself to refuse.

“m’kay”

--

“P-pregnant?” Jaejoong’s eyes were wide and almost bulging, Yoochun’s jaw instantly dropped.

“This is very new to us as well Mr. Kim, I may not be the best doctor in town but I assure you, there is a one month old fetus growing inside you.” The doctor informed them, the second time.

Now he was shocked as hell. No way. He was a man, he didn’t care if it was Yunho’s, still, he was a man and it hurt his pride to be in the same situation as a woman.

How would he explain this to his parents? His father was expecting so much from him as he was the only male out of nine children.

“Shit. Jae. When did you start sleeping with men?” was all Yoochun could mutter after they left the hospital, equally as disturbed as the other man.

They were now in the park, trying to sort things out.

“It’s not any other man Chun.” Jaejoong avoided Yoochun’s gaze.

“Don’t tell me-”

“It’s Yunho.”

“What the hell?! He’s getting married! How did you- when did you-? Ahh! Never mind! Don’t give me the details.” Yoochun was now in a daze. His two friends had done something terribly wrong and Jae was the only one suffering the consequences.

“I’m sorry.”

“No. Don’t apologize to me. Why are you apologizing to me? Ahh...this is so messed up! How are you going to tell him?” Jaejoong was now eyeing his phone, debating on calling the other guy or not.

The memory of one month ago came back to him.

“I’m so sorry.”

-Yunho

“After his wedding, perhaps.”

--

“Bae-ssi! Long time no see.” Dr. Lee tried to get the attention of the young model that passed by his office.

“Donghae-ssi! How are you?” Seulgi was surprised to see his college friend, a doctor here in another hospital.

“I’m fine, I heard you’re getting married?”

“I am, in a few months, what are you doing here?” Seulgi asked as enthusiastic as the other.

“Nothing much, just visiting an old friend.” Donghae motioned for Seulgi to sit but she reasoned that Yunho would be arriving soon.

“Oh isn’t that Yunho-ssi?” Donghae pointed to a tall figure walking towards them.

“Ah! Yunho-ah!” Seulgi called out to Yunho and the latter immediately went to her side.

Donghae stood up and held out his hand to the taller man, who reached out in return.

“Donghae-ssi, it’s nice seeing you here.” Yunho and Donghae had met a few times before, since he accompanied Seulgi to her regular check-ups before.

“It’s nice seeing you too Yunho ssi. Well I have to get going now.” Donghae was about to leave when something came to mind.

Yunho and Seulgi were still chatting when he called for their attention.

“Oh Yunho ssi, if you don’t mind give my regards to Yoochun-ssi and Jaejoong-ssi, and do tell them to take more care now.”

“What do you mean?” Yunho’s curiosity rose at the mention of Jaejoong’s name.

“Oh you didn’t know. I’m in no position to say this-“ Yunho’s eyes were sharp as he stared down the doctor. Donghae swallowed audibly and continued, “Jaejoong ssi’s a month pregnant.”

That single statement had Yunho running. That day, he drove over the speed limit with his seatbelt unbuckled.

--

“Why would you hide it from me?!” Yunho’s shouts echoed inside Jaejoong’s apartment.

“You’re getting married Yunho! It would be better if it’s left a secret, at least after your marriage.” Jaejoong countered. He was asleep when he heard the loud banging on his door and he was more than surprised to see a raging Yunho standing on the other side.

“That is my child too Jaejoong, and I have all rights to know about its existence!” Jaejoong flinched from the intensity of the other’s voice.

“Honestly sometimes I wonder how a person like you could be my friend!” the smaller man’s eyes widened, he knew what he did was wrong but what Yunho just said was too much.

“Really?! Then keep wondering!” Jaejoong pushed at Yunho with all his remaining strength, making him stumble but he successfully kept his balance and glared at Jaejoong.

“You are one sick guy! Don’t you dare do anything stupid Kim Jaejoong! That child is mine too, thus I also decide what to do with it!” Yunho stormed out of the apartment.

“What is wrong with him??” Jaejoong asked himself as he returned to his room.

He picked up the phone from his bed and dialed Yoochun’s number.

The phone rang a few times before Yoochun finally picked up.

“Jae! What happened? How did Yunho find out?” Jaejoong was startled at the sudden question, confusion swept over him.

“Jae, Yunho cancelled the wedding!” with that, Jaejoong was left speechless. A sudden ray of hope struck him. Maybe Yunho realized his feelings for Jaejoong, maybe he knew all along but he just waited for something that’ll bring them together.

That moment Jaejoong felt happiness in spite of the guilt that crept up his spine. Yes he was happy but it was at the cost of someone else’s happiness.

“Jae? Jae?” Yoochun was left forgotten as Jaejoong continued to marvel the possibilities and future that awaited him.

--

The next morning he heard nothing from Yunho but he received many questions from relatives and friends regarding Yunho’s decision. He was after all, Yunho’s best friend.

He decided to meet Yunho that night after making dinner for himself. Then he would face his parents and tell them his condition, and if fate let it be, he might have Yunho with him when he finally confronted his parents.

Things are getting better. But that was what he thought.

--

Yunho knew Jaejoong longer than any other person. He knew how secretive his best friend could be but he was surprised that Jaejoong actually tried to hide his child from him.

Somehow upon discovering the existence of his unborn child inside Jaejoong. he felt good. He was not sure if it was because he had always wanted a child or it was because of the feelings he had started to harbor for Jaejoong. Yes, Jung Yunho was falling for his best friend of years. He was not very sure when nor how but he as dead sure that what he felt was real.

He had always felt a certain attraction to the blonde but he refused to acknowledge it, knowing such feelings would only be a cause of problem in his family. His father expected him to be the perfect son, an epitome of manliness, and him being gay was not part of the plan.

Maybe that’s also the reason he dated Seulgi, and somehow he is thankful since he eventually learned to love the model but finding out about Jaejoong’s condition, he couldn’t bring himself to leave the man.

And now here he was, in front of Seulgi, asking her if she was okay with everything.

“Yunho ah…how could you do that?” Seulgi continued to cry, her face buried in her palms. Yunho felt bad seeing his fiancé breakdown like that but there was nothing he can do.

“I’m sorry Seulgi ah, but I have to take responsibility. Jaejoong needs me right now.”

“But I need you more Yunho ah. You promised to stay with me.”

“I love you Seulgi, I love you so much but we can’t be together like before.” Yunho enveloped her in his arms from the couch she sat. He hated lying but he had to.

He rocked their bodies together trying to make her stop crying.

“Jaejoong is just a person who carries my child, I will still be with you Seulgi.” He whispered softly.

“Show me.”

With that Yunho pulled her into a standing position and kissed her passionately, trying to convey his feelings for Jaejoong to someone who was not him.

Both were too caught up with each other that they failed to notice a certain blonde standing by the doorway.

--

Jaejoong drove off to the nearest convenience store and bought two cans of beer. He contemplated on drinking at home or driving to the nearest park and drink there. In the end he decided to drink it in one gulp before starting the engine again. He was pretty much sober; his alcohol tolerance was higher than that of any other person.

He decided to stroll around the city tonight, he had no plans of going home, after all.

Ah…

140 kph

“I love you Seulgi, I love you so much but we can’t be together like before.”

The car vibrated from the speed, his body felt better feeling the cold air hit his face, tears were wiped by the wind.

220 kph

“Jaejoong is just a person who carries my child, I will still be with you Seulgi.”

His heart felt numb with all the pain he went through. His whole entity felt unwanted.

280 kph

“This is very new to us as well Mr. Kim, I may not be the best doctor in town but I assure you, there is a one month old fetus growing inside you.”

And then he remembered the life inside him that he was supposed to protect.

What was he doing? He did want to die, but he forgot about his angel, would he bring his child along him to death? He didn’t have the heart to do that.

With that Jaejoong stepped on the break slowly, making sure not to create any force. But what he didn’t expect was the lady who jumped right in front of his car, Jaejoong who was in panic pulled the car to the left where another moving car was headed.

The lady was not harmed as Jaejoong’s Lexus collided with the other car, causing a good amount of damage in both the cars’ front.

Jaejoong was thankful enough he didn’t get any serious injury and he was very much alive. Maybe the presence of his unborn child motivated Jaejoong to live, perhaps it even guarded him from harm.

Jaejoong was about to go out when he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen, then he felt wetness on his pants, he didn’t remember getting that scared to pee in his pants.

His suspicions were proven correct when he touched his wet pants and found crimson staining his palm.

He scrambled to get his bag from the passenger seat, pulling his phone from the pocket and dialing the first number that came into mind.

“Yoochun-ah!” He cried out.
